  • PowerBeam ANT+

    Q:

    Hi.
I have a power beam pro with joule gps unit. I. Normally just use it in ergo mode but would like to be able to just ride and control the power with gears. I'm trying to get better at holding a certain wattage. The ergo mode is great but not much skill is needed to pace efforts.
How can I do this.? I don't connect to zwift or any other app.
    Thanks

You can do that by going to the Main Menu | Training | Workouts | Manual Slope or Manual Power and you can adjust the resistance based on slope, gear or target wattage.

It could depend on how old your PowerBeam ANT+ is? Have you calibrated the trainer recently with the compatible software?

    Q:

I have an older powerbeam pro that has served me very well. I just switched bikes and rode without a cadence meter on Zwift, and yet I had cadence measurements in Strava. Is this somehow estimated in the trainer or am I crazy? How could this be and how accurate could it be? it seems strangely close...

That would be a question for Strava, the PowerBeam transmits speed and watts only.

    Q:

If I buy the Bluetooth version will I be able to see my power, speed and cadence on my Garmin Edge 520 since it is BLE compatible? Would I be able to see them on the ANT+ version of the trainer too?

      A:

Your Garmin Edge just runs ANT+ for signal acceptance so you will just be able to see ANT+ devices. The Garmin Edge 520 is not Bluetooth compatible.

You can use the Free Ride option on our CycleOps Virtual Training to control the trainer manually for 1 hour at a time (you can ride as many 1 hour increments as you like)

    Q:

I have been using this trainer for over 6 months with no issues. Last week I removed my bike from the trainer to do some maintenance. After reattaching the bike, I did a spin down calibration in the virtual training software, like I normally do when I remove the bike.

After the calibration my standard resistance is set to 110 watts. I can pedal at 23 mph and still stay at 110 watts. Before calibration I was able to get different wattage depending on the effort or speed I was putting in, now it's static and super low. What is going on? I've tried recalibrating multiple times and still have the same results. No matter what I do I get this issue. I used to be able to ride without connecting to the virtual training software, but now that my trainer is calibrated incorrectly and doesn't seem to want to recalibrate, I am having to use the software for every ride and adjust the resistance manually. It still doesn't feel right even then, but I am at least able to get a training session in.

Double check that your tires are at full PSI, your clutch knob is turned until it clicks twice. Also make sure your CVT is up to date. If your PowerBeam has a shiny flywheel, it might need a firmware update so you would have to ship the resistance unit to us.

    Q:

I have the powerbeam pro and am trying to understand calibrating the unit. I use the trainer in both the zwift and cycleops virtual trainer. I understand that zwift doesn't have a calibration function for the powerbeam, at least I cant find one. In cycleops, if find it under the free ride function. My question is, if I calibrate the trainer in cycleops and then close it down and go ride in zwift, does the calibration hold? As in does the calibration stay wit the trainer or the software?

Also, there is noting anywhere on the wrbsite or in the documentation that comes with the unit that talks about calibrating it. This would be nice to have and have it be easily accessible.

Yes, Zwift is not capable of calibrating any smart trainer at this time. Yes, if you calibrate in CVT the calibration WILL hold when you switch over to Zwift.
