Great trainer. This is the go-to trainer for Zwift at this price point. It's full functional with Zwift, including live adjustment of tension to simulate gradients. Power metering is accurate, and calibration of the wheel tension is very easy with a torque adjuster knob. Roadfeel is fantastic, it's quiet, and it's easy to set up. Feels sturdy.

Easy to set up. OK for Erg mode. Road Feel is a joke and makes it unrideable. Non existent documentation - nothing about calibration, nothing about how they determine gradient.. Any grade over about 3% is impossible to turn over. Feeds back so much resistance that I have to pedal at 55 rpm and 200W, Would normally be doing 80 rpm and 350W. Will work in Zwift if you change difficulty scale to 30-40%.

No instructions for syncing laptop to trainer

By

from Washington, DC

I bought this at the local bike store after reviewing various products. I had a cycle ops fluid trainer before, and threw it away after excessive leaking. The hardware was easy to setup, maybe 20min total.
But i could not figure out how to sync it with my laptop. I think it is a bluetooth issue, but laptop doesnt have Bluetooth. Suspect there is some plug in adapter i need, but haven't been able to find exactly what I need.
I hope I can figure it out, because the video is awesome, projected onto large wall.

I've been using the Magnus for 2 months now and it has worked flawlessly. Easily connects to my iPad for riding on Zwift and other services. One firmware update since I have purchased it after disconnecting halfway through, the second time it loaded with no issues. The tension knob is a very nice feature. The way it has been designed ensures you will have the same exact pressure on your tire (providing you keep the same air pressure of course) every time you install your bike.

I've had my Magnus a couple of weeks now. Unpacking and assembly was easy and straight forward. Placing my bike in the trainer with the spring loaded lever was simple. The clutch knob for adjusting the roller tension was fool proof and much easier than my previous trainer.
Pairing the Magnus with both Cycleops Virtual Training and Trainer Road on my computer and iPhone were straight forward. No issues. When riding the Cycleops Virtual Trainer the effort required when going up hill on "virtual" slopes feels very similar to my outdoor experience. The structured workouts from Trainer Road controlling my Magnus are making me work hard and I'm already seeing the rewards from the efforts.
Overall, a smart trainer at a great price that's easy to setup and use. My biggest problem was finding an extension cord to plug it in.

Have used it 20 or so times in the last 3 months for rides from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Reasonably priced and well featured smart trainer. Works seamlessly with Zwift which provides a great selection of workouts by difficultly and length. One can do distance, speed work, climbing and interval training. The dynamic variable smart magneto resistance is realistic and responsive. Peak power handling is well north of 600 watts. My rides typically average 250 to 300 watts. Well built and easy to calibrate. Wattage measurements are consistent from ride to ride provided tire inflation pressure is kept relatively constant

Works great for Intervals, but needs more documentation!

        Pros

        • Easy To Set Up

        Cons

        • Insufficent Documentation

        Best Uses

        • Interval Training

I upgraded from the Fluid2 to the Magnus (partly because Performance had a great deal on a pre-order). It works really well for intervals, once you figure out some of it's idiosyncrasies, especially when using it with TrainerRoad (which is what I use it for exclusively right now).
I follow the tension and turn the knob until it clicks. Works fine for me with a trainer-specific tire (on a trainer-specific spare wheel).
There is no documentation describing when you should calibrate the trainer. When you start? After a warm up (the trainer does not get hot like the Fluid2 did)? Every time you use it? Use the CVT calibration or the new PowerTab spin down calibration? There's nothing describing how to get the best, most consistent results.
Second, I discovered you have to disable TrainerRoad's Power Match. When it was on, it would sometimes get confused and calculate a big negative offset, so you were locked in 100W below target. This isn't an issue with the Magnus, but with the integration of the Magnus with TR. I report this for others to learn, as this alone had me considering returning the Magnus for a KICKR SNAP.
I have to agree with another reviewer that it could use a heavier flywheel. Not for road feel, as it doesn't matter how closely a trainer might mimic the road, I still know I'm on a trainer. I think this would help smooth out the power readings a bit more.
I will say that now using an ERG versus a Fluid is a LOT more effective. It's paid off huge in improving my power and endurance!
I'm hopeful I can get the rest of these niggling issues sorted out soon.

Title says it all, this trainer is great. It is extremely stable and very obvious that there were no shortcuts taken in creating the parts, which shows with the Cycleops Lifetime Warranty. The only gripe I have with using this trainer so far is the calibration can be fidgety sometimes (not really the trainer but more the Cycleops virtual training app), you have to maintain a speed around 20 mph but if you are calibrating it because the resistance is larger than the trainer believes it to be this can be like trying to go 20 mph up a large steep climb.

TLDR: this trainer is great and will get you through winter after winter.

I ordered this to get through the winter. Then I broke my collarbone in November. So it became not only a trainer, but a rehab device The Magnus helped me get back on the road and I'm loving that, but it has also become a convenient training partner when it's dark outside, or bad weather, or time is short.

I understand that you need to get the subscription in order to have access to recorded routes and videos. But how do you even use if it you don't have a subscription? • Q:

I like the video of the FulGaz training app, but the Magnus doesn't seem to increase the resistance (more watts/speed) as I ascend the hills in the FulGaz app. Is this because the app is not compatible with the Magnus, or can this be made to work properly? With the Zwift app, resistance does increase and decrease throughout the video, but the video quality is more like a cartoon and I was hoping to see more realistic video and terrain. The Cycle Apps training app (trial) is also not very realistic in video quality. Are there any other more realistic riding apps that will work with the Magnus?

                      Thanks
