Training and Racing

What are your most important power training metrics?

My average wattage over a 1 or 2 hour TT..... My hardest session physically and mentally but also my most rewarding. 5-7minute big-gear hill repeats....I love trying to keep my wattage up as high as I can for as long as I can...it is a fun game that I play.

What are you pre-event rituals?

must have a massage on the wednesday or thursday before the race, must do a swim, bike and run on the day before the race. On race day I always do a short run warm-up.

What are your must-haves on race day?

of course I must have my powertap working perfectly. I always carry a box of tissues...just in case. I must have my IPod or Oakley Thumps to listen to music....it really helps me get in the mood to race hard.

What is your favorite pre-event meal?

usually it is just plain white rice and maybe a small piece of grilled chicken. I also like to have chocolate the night before a big race. I find if i keep it nice and simple i am less likely to have stomach issues on race day.

What is your favorite post-event meal?

ohhh there are so many things I crave after an Ironman...really anything that is salty and fatty..like pizza, hot chips, potato crisps, mexican food. I usually  do not feel for anything that is sweet.

What is your greatest achievement/proudest moment in your sport?

Winning my very first Ironman event in Korea, winning Challenge Roth in Germany- such an honour to win this prestigious race. Placing top 10 at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii (I have now achieved this 6 times). All of my 12 Ironman distance titles have been a great achievement.

What is your favorite race?

I have two- Challenge Roth in Germany which is an Ironman distance event and Phuket International triathlon in Phuket, Thailand.

For Fun

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

I loved “Peanuts”...Snoopy was one of favorites!!!

What is your favorite training song?

I love training to anything by 'Massive Attack' and I also just discovered a new band out of Manchester, England called 'Delphic’

What is your guilty pleasure?

ohhh I have quite a few... good red wine and coffee are at the top of the list though. I also love home made jams and any home-made biscuits and cakes :)

What do you do when you’re not training?

I love meeting friends for coffee and I love to go shopping for clothes...I can’t help myself when I go to the shops.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to work at the Zoo with all of the animals
