Athlete Q and A

What does being a CycleOps athlete mean to you?

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for CycleOps and I’m genuinely flattered to be a part of their program.   It’s one more reason to go a little harder and a little longer.

How does CycleOps help you achieve your goals?

The CycleOps product line lets me be very targeted with my training which, being a working parent, is vital for time management.   By using the Fluid2 trainer, or rollers, I can get in my training routine regardless of the weather and when I can squeeze it into my day.   Using the PowerTap makes sure that those training sessions are focused and completed with a purpose.   Unlike a heart rate monitor or RPE, there is no cheating with WATTS (sometimes that’s an unfortunate thing).

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

Of course, Looney Tunes

List five things you would want on a deserted island.

Wife & daughter,  the cast from Lost, bottomless fridge, my mountain bike, my iPhone w/ service (sigh)

If you are to take a picture of cheese, what do you think it would say?

Cracker looks tasty, eh?

What is your most embarrassing moment?

At the end of a 72 hour adventure race, I thought it would be funny to ride across the finish line, up the ramp, and into the moving truck waiting there.   It seems wet conditions and the smooth wooden floor bottom of the truck was a bad combination (3 days without sleep impairs judgment, I guess).    I crashed hard and loudly to the delight of the crowd gathered at the finish line.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Easy, bacon….  I’ve often entertained trying the all-bacon diet …

What are you doing when you are not riding?

Playing with my 18 month old daughter

What is your greatest achievement in your sport?

2 Achievements are tied for my top spot.

1)  18th place in TransRockies 7 day mtn bike race,

2)  Completing the Leadville 100 in 10:30.

What was your first bike?

An old, creaky, orange Peugeot 10 speed
