What are your most important power training metrics?

Average Watts, current watts, speed.

What CycleOps products do you use?

I use the PowerBeam Pro at least once/week even on nice warm dry days. It’s great for specific hard intervals and I like to listen to music and ride hard without traffic etc. On the road and in racing I use the Joule 2.0 and CycleOps power hubs.

What is your favorite power-based workout?

5-10min hill repeats.

What are your goals for 2012?

Win another Ironman, podium all my races, place top 5 in Kona

What are you pre-event rituals?

Writing race goals and key words/focus points in a special notebook

What are your must-haves on race day?

For Ironman: My CycleOps power meter to make sure I stick to my plan on the bike.  First Endurance nutrition

What is your favorite pre-event meal?

Dinner: Mashed yams/potatoes, side of fish, avocado

What is your favorite post-event meal?

Anything with French Fries

What is your greatest achievement/proudest moment in your sport?

Breaking the long-held Ironman Lake Placid record, and finishing 8th at the World Champs in 2011

What is your favorite race?

Ironman St. George

For Fun

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

Batman

What memories do you have of learning to ride a bike? Your first bike?

I remember my dad running along holding the back of my seat. Bikes were always hand-me-downs from my older brother. The first bike I remember was orange with a banana seat that had silver sparkles in it!

Any pets?

Our cat Manah travels with us in our RV. She’s awesome, loves to go on adventures at new camp spots and always comes back.

Almond Milk.
Sweet chili sauce? Is that a condiment?

During the 2012 Ironman New Orleans 70.3 on Sunday, April 21, Trevor Wurtele won the Men's division and Sarah Piampiano won the Women's with Heather Wurtele close behind in second. Due to harsh weather conditions, the event was a duathlon with a two-mile run replacing the swim.

Cold temps at IM 70.3 California didn’t slow down the competition, and CycleOps athletes put in incredibly strong performances. 4 of the top-6 pro women and 3 of the top-10 men were CycleOps-powered athletes. Melanie McQuaid took the huge win, laying the groundwork with the fastest women's bike split, and big congratulation goes out to Meredith Kessler, Linsey Corbin, Lesley Paterson, Jesse Thomas, Chris McDonald and Matt Lieto (who recorded the fastest bike split on the men's side).

Also Congratulations to Sara Piampiano and Heather Wurtele on strong showings at the Texas Iron Man 70.3!

Going into Ironman Lake Placid I knew that if I could just go out there and focus fully on doing my job, everything else would take care of itself. I have heard great tales of how when you are totally engaged in the process of doing, you become what you are doing, and in those moments nothing else in the word exists for you. It was pretty cool to have that happen. It was definitely the most "in the zone" I have ever been.

The 2nd annual Ford Ironman St. George, on May 7th in, yes, you guessed it, St. George Utah, was my third Ironman win, second win at this race (woot! repeat!), and first time racing with power for an Ironman.

I have been training with power for over a year now and was lucky enough to have CycleOps and Rolf Prima put together a sweet TT58 race wheel for me. Having power metrics on a day to day training basis has been so helpful for me to accurately monitor my progress and really get the most out of my workouts. It keeps me in control when it's just supposed to be a zone 2 ride, and kicks my butt when zone 5 intervals are on tap!
