What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
Looking back on it now I have no idea what I found so entertaining about a vision impaired old man. Growing up nothing could touch Mr. Magoo.

Did you ever have a celebrity encounter? If so, who, when, and where?
When I was 11 I happened to be on the same flight as two WWF wrestlers: King Kong Bundy & Bam Bam Bigelow. Although I ended up with both of their autographs, what I most remember was my father convincing me that given their size the plane wasn't big enough to carry us all back to Portland.

What was the last song that you sung along to?
In our house my wife, Elli is the real singer. She just performed the lead to "The Rain is Over And Gone" with the Portland Chorale Arts Society. We've had sing alongs to that since.

|
What is your guilty pleasure?
Doughnuts. Hands down I will have eaten more doughnuts than anyone else who plans to race Kona this year.
|
|
What is your favorite pre-event meal?
By no means do I recommend it, but I've always found sticky rice and sushi rolls settle well in my stomach.

What is your greatest achievement in your sport?
There is so much that goes into preparing for an Ironman. A major part of why I race is the gamble of trying to balance the right amount of aggression and patience on race day. Last year at Ironman Arizona I was able to ride the fastest amateur bike split (4:38 ) and still leave enough in my legs for a 3:15 marathon.

What was your first bike?
A single speed Space Invader cruiser. It came stock with a banana seat, chopper style handlebars and Atari branding. It really was awesome.

How does CycleOps help you achieve your goals?
Being able to quantify the effort that goes into both racing and training is tremendous asset. With a PowerTap you learn what you are capable of; more importantly you can realize what it takes to reach the next level. Over the passed year I have worked with Doug Welling at The Sustainable Athlete. Coupling the data collected by a PowerTap with the knowledge of a seasoned coach has transformed the way I train , ride, and finish races.
